Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Group

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of characters, and a thrilling plot showcasing celestial beings, fiends, and sinister influences growing in strength within the urban setting.

Note: Revealing details for Episode 3 of this adventure lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

The third episode concluded with a huge suspense moment and introduced the initial group of heroes who will separate from the main group to embark on their separate journey, apart from the remaining groups.

The Soldiers table features Teor Pridesire (played by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

With a large ensemble, it was clear from the beginning that keeping everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Overture, weaving together the individual narratives before dividing into three separate parties: Fighters, Schemers, and Questers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

As described by the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who prefer a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven story mode where diplomatic options are scarce.

Upon first impression, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might appear unsuited, but the events of the latest installment show why these particular heroes are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

To begin with, the party knows exactly where to proceed after a brutal opening clash with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose passing initiated the narrative’s action—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his own means, entering Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the character, and taking all the enchanted items to auction.

The traitor then cleared his liabilities and escaped to a fortified location in the remote area, north of the city, with Cyd pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each member has a personal reason to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and trusted friend, wants vengeance.
  • The adventurer knows the region and cautions that it is a hostile location.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having resisted his house’s orders to execute Teor and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • However, their position as important members in the powerful family could enable the party access areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, Teor swore a life debt to Wicander for his rescue and will now accompany him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the rulers that govern the setting for a multiple motives, making remaining behind too risky:

  • The rogue and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and Wicander betrayed the powerful family and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by the family.

This leaves them few options but to head to Timmony in search of the traitor.

What’s Next?

Based on the latest episode’s post-show segment, we find out that the combat party will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the players to round up the Questers and Schemers groups.

Fans can look forward to finding out which characters will be where in the season’s last Overture episode, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
